VITICULTURE Our Cabernet Sauvignon parcel came from our Mere vineyard, and a small parcel of Merlot was sourced from our Kereru vineyard in Mangatahi, Hawke’s Bay. Kereru is a warm free draining site with naturally balanced vines. Early crop regulation to one bunch per shoot, with 100% leaf removal in the fruit zone, ensured even ripeness of fruit in both vineyards. 2013 was an outstanding red vintage in Hawke’s Bay, a dry temperate growing season was followed by a beautiful warm late autumn.

WINEMAKING COMMENTS The fruit was hand-picked and de-stemmed directly to a small open top fermenter where the cap was gently plunged. After extended post ferment maceration the wine was run to barriques where it underwent malolactic fermentation. After racking, the wine was aged in barriques for 14 months before the blend was assembled for bottling with no fining.

WINE AND FOOD Ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and plum flavours are supported by complex spicy oak from extended barrel aging. The palate is rich and supple with smooth tannins and a long finish. Food pairing suggestions: New Zealand grass fed lamb and beef
