Gisborne experienced a warm spring encouraging a good fruit set amongst the vines. A wet February refreshed the canopy and set the vines up for the crucial ripening period. When this began in March the weather was significantly better, allowing concentrated flavours to develop in the vines over an extended ripening period.
The grapes were harvested at peak maturity when they were showing a
combination of apricot, lime, guava and tangelo marmalade characters.
A cool fermentation over 2-3 weeks has rewarded us with a great balance between dominant fruit sweetness and a zippy acidity.
Our Ice Wine offers an exceptional example of this intensely concentrated
style. Honey, citrus, guava and late autumn stone fruits are but a few of the
characters creating this wine of unmistakable intensity and character. The
distinctive stone-fruit derived flavours help balance the natural acidity.
This wine represents brilliant value with its immediate appeal and will drink well in its youth, or cellar a few bottles to watch it evolve.
Superb with fruity deserts such as lemon tart, or ideal as an aperitif by itself.
