VARIETY The Haast Chardonnay follows in our birds of prey theme. New Zealand’s Haast eagle, now extinct, was the largest ever known raptor to have flown the worlds skies. Likely to have preyed upon the moa, its huge wingspan and wickedly curved talons made it the top of the food chain before the arrival of the Maori people. .
STYLE Dry with oak barrel influences
VINEYARD This Chardonnay of a blend from three Marlborough vineyards including our own Falcon Vineyard plus Peter and Anne Reed’s Renwick Vineyard and the Awatere Valley vineyard of Fiona and Hamish Turner. It is a mixture of clones 15, 6, MVIG1, 95 and Mendoza.
VINIFICATION A blend of hand-picked and machine harvested fruit, cool fermented in tank and oak. All of the wine was aged on lees The wine went through a full, secondary malo-lactic fermentation giving richness and well balanced acidity.
APPEARANCE Pale gold on release
BOUQUET The nose is delicate aromas of peach and grapefruit, with a touch of spicy oak.
PALATE The palate of this bright and elegant medium bodied Chardonnay exhibits a creamy texture with soft acidity and a lingering finish.
CELLARING Enjoy now or cellar carefully for the next 5 years.
SERVING TEMPERATURE Best served 8 to 12C
