Harvest & Winemaker’s notes: A warm summer allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly and the cool Marlborough nights harnessed the acidity to give defi nition to the wine. Harvested in the early hours of the morning to preserve fruit purity. The grapes were slowly and gently pressed. After a cool, long fermentation the wine was aged on fi ne lees for 6 weeks to allow the natural weight of the wine to develop.
‘An immediately appealing wine, the fragrant bouquet shows nectarine, pear and floral aromas, leading to a succulent palate that’s expressive with loads of friendly flavours, nicely framed by refreshing acidity. It’s so good drinking. At its best: now to 2017.’ Sam Kim, Wine Orbit. July 2014.
A refreshingly dry Pinot Gris filled with aromas of spiced pear & lemongrass. The palate is dry with attractive, soft acidity cutting through flavours of apple pie and a twist of salted almonds.
The Black Cottage, situated in the heart of the Wairau Valley, is where winemaker David Clouston lives and spends quality time with friends and family. It is also the quiet space in which he contemplates and constructs the very special wines on which he has built a fine reputation.
